G'day again guys,
Three in a row. After the second closest game in GA 2142 Finals history (The closest being -A-g- > F-V| by six tickets in S2 Preliminary Finals), Avant-Garde have secured their third successive GameArena premiership.
Before we say any more though, a massive thanks to For Valour. Finer opponents in this grand final could not have been found anywhere. Over the past months -A-g- and F-V| have become extremely close, partnering up whenever the chances have arisen - and then some dodgy business outside of that. Luda knows what I mean. :>
That doesn't cover everything that our own guys have done though.
bigmoose
Took a bit of a break in S3, but massive recon skills, and solid assault to boot.
BlacKHearT
Underrated by many, BH is without a doubt our premier assault player.
Cathal
With us from the beginning, Cathal is an excellent all rounder.
Commodus
Best in aus, Commo to step up whenever and whereever we need him. Big in the APC.
Disruption
A huge all rounder, Dissy also steps up in the APC - fantastic blindfires galore!
Gromz
Best in pub. Just kidding, Gromzy is another that's always there, always turning up when he's needed. Pro in the gunship, solid infantry.
Luges
Our most recent recruit, Luges is one of the better infantry players in Aus BF2142. He carries, when he's not hungover :>
Martinshki
Best walker is aus. End. Ta. But seriously, Martini is behind our pracs, our scanerio responses.. And he kills lots of stuff too. Massive. Chunky, c'mon!
Mashes
Big in the APC, big on the ground with all kits.. Mashes has largely vanished from the battlefield for the so called "rl" this season. He'll be back. They all come back..
Nova
Easily the best in -A-g- with the TV guided gunship missiles. Also solid in vehicles and on the ground.
Organon
Best in aus with that tank. Especially the Neko. However, Org's match fee is now approaching the theoretical maximum. Sexual favours can only go so far.
razz
He's large with that assault kit. Seriously, it freaks us all out. Also a solid jihader. Even if he would prefer to be down at the pub instead of playing. Who does that. Seriously.
Wandy
El capitano, pioneer of the RDX arts that have been passed down to everyone in our ranks.. Our stratter, jihader, organiser, and generally best capitan ever. It's okay Martini, I still heart you.
zzymyn
Best comms in aus. Once again, easily. Pro spots, always there when you need him to be.. We could not ask for moar.
Oh, and thanks to netGameRadio too! Excellent coverage of the match, as always!
And now.. To the actual purpose of this post, before I got sidetracked - For Valour have done a very cool writeup. Recommend you read and enjoy. Props to Hospi for knocking it up for us!

First of all everyone at For Valour would like to say much respect to Avant Garde for a great final game.
F-V and -A-g- clashed at central command post with -A-g- dropping a 3 man squad that quickly avoided a jihad and proceeded to cap centre leaving F-V with only Office whilst -A-g- held Freezers and central. The F_V beacon was placed at the central flag and a small squad held out for a sustained period whilst an attack plan was laid. With the bleed slowly taking a large toll on For valours ticket count. With the margin widening FV launched an attack with our infantry capping Freezers while our armor moved in on central resulting in 3 flag cap advantage - We though -A-g- were held to their main. Surprisingly and before the cap was made on their near flag and the defences laid an -A-g- advantage before defense could be laid they breached with two cars simultaneously capturing Office and central, a well co-ordinated counter-attack left F-V on the bleed.
The Round 1 margin 60-0 in Avant Garde's favour.
The Final Margin 60-51 Avant Garde's favour
Gamearena Season 3 Finals!05/22/2008

G'day kiddies!
It's been a while since this page has been updated, so we figured it was high time we put some new stuff up!
Last night, we took on the Ministry of Gaming in the second preliminary final of the Gamearena BF2142 third seasonal competition. But before we take a look at that match, let's have a quick blast from the past and examine the games preceding it.
-A-g- v -cL^ (First incursion, Camp Gibraltar Alt - Regulation Play)
After a spate of inactivity and avoidance of all things BF2142, Avant-Garde was hit with a challenge from Crimson Legion. Filled with players everyone knew from the forums, and had seen in the pub servers (Especially Gamearena 8, you know the one I mean..), on a map we had previously won a Grand Final on.
Well, we went in cocky, and we lost. We salvaged a few tickets, but it was never going to be enough. We were defeated for the first time in.. well, a long time.
-A-g- v -cL^ (Second incursion, Suez Sunset - Regulation Play)
And then we challenged Crimson Legion in reply, unsatisfied with our performance on Gibby. Armour was the pick, hoping to exploit a weakness. However, our own lack of practice in vehicles was soon exposed, and we went down again, albeit this time by a much narrower margin.
-A-g- v -cL^ (Final incursion, Belgrade - Finals, First Round)
This was it. The finals had arrived, and Avant-Garde, ranked third on the ladder at the time, was up against Crimson Legion in the finals. This time, losing was not an option, and excuses were not allowed.
We pracced, and pracced, and then pracced some more. In between discovering how to make a walker float around the map, and making a car travel several thousand times faster than normally able, we devised a new strategy, never seen before, and unleashed it upon our hapless foes. For the first time all season, our coordination was a shadow of what it once was, and things started to come together.
Exceptional walker work from Martinshki and massive Krylovin' dished out from Blackheart meant that virtually anything venturing close to Comms in the center of the map was smashed down quickly.
Quick spotting from zzy in Command meant that Moose was able to respond quickly, throwing down his sniper kit for the superior assault weaponry on offer.
Wandy and Commo did their usual thing, stealing FAVs, jacking walkers, and making sure they were in the right place at the right time, and Luges made sure he was right in behind them, backing them up (Among other things. :>)
After a resounding victory as EU, we were down about 100-20 as PAC. Holding only ruins, the call went out to take Statue. With our walker moving in, emp/orb support and infantry pushing too, we were able to take the flag, and began to rain suppressing fire from the ledge into the forested Comms area. As Blackheart fell back to Ruins, the bleed started to eat away at the -cL^ tickets. At the same time, the -A-g- defibs came out in force, and many swaps were to be had as we all picked up each others kits to save each and every ticket.
In a mammoth effort from all involved in the match, we were able to lock down the map, and take the score to an incredible 6-0 in our favour.
The Avant-Garde of old had returned. Well, part of it, anyway. The other bits chose to head to the pub instead of playing.
But now, ladies and gentlemens, to the reason this article was commissioned.
Having finished in the top four teams of the regular season, and winning the first round against -cL^, -A-g- had a free pass through to the preliminary finals. While we waited for other teams to battle amongst each other to decide who would eventually face us, we began to work on our squadwork, drilled by the almost omniscient Martinshki.
Eventually, our fate was known. We would face off against [M], the Ministry of Gaming, on Cerbere Landing Alt.
-A-g- v [M] (Cerbere Landing Alt - Finals, Preliminary Final)
First half // -A-g- as PAC
The first half of the match saw us starting off on the PAC side. Known for its Krylovs, and.. well, that's about it, the PAC side is regarded by many as "overpowered". One thing we did NOT intend to do was let this be our preconception. We had decided to push for a capout only under strict conditions - the Alt version of Cerbere allows for scoring that doesn't actually reflect the outcome of the match to prevail.
To this end, we crafted a new strategy, once again never before seen. Martinshki pulled a sneaky panda from the lead car, and went right past the Church, while Wandy lead his squad into fierce enemy fire at South Town.
While [M] stopped both cars in their tracks, our infantry began to push the South Town flag. Unfortunately someone spotted Martini, and took him out before he could secure a firebase.
And then, the Ocelots rolled in. Weaving in through the buildings, an -A-g- car and SL managed to sneak through to Comms. After some quick hopping, he had a full squad up there, and as [M] rotated to deal with the threat, -A-g- rotated back, putting the pressure onto South Town, taking the flag. Ministry responded relatively quickly though, changing from a cumbersome approach towards a more versatile structure. They continued their defence on Comms until it was completely cleared, then moved back down to roadblock. Alas, Martinshki had snuck through! Once again, a full -A-g- squad was up at Comms, wreaking all sorts of havoc.
As they moved to the flag, however, once again the Ocelots arrived! [M] attempted to spawn in to put suppression on the flag, and stop it turning grey and then green, but the Ocelot kept them pinned down long enough for -A-g- to take the flag.
Avant-Garde mopped up the area, filled up the cars, and moved straight down to Roadblock. Fierce fighting erupted at Roadblock and South Town, but [M] were eventually outgunned and capped out, the score 90-0 in favour of -A-g-.
Second half // -A-g- as EU
Going in to the second half, we were relatively satisfied with our performance as PAC - but 90 tickets in the first half is hardly enough to secure a victory.
With the 8v8 format, and analysis of previous BRs in hand, we elected to station the majority of our forces at the South Town flag, save for a single man to.. well.. man the FAV from Comms. And good thing we did, because Gromz came roaring down the road, and exploded against a PAC car in style, before watching several teammates being shot in the back from attempted revives on him!
[M] dropped a large number of Assault troops on the stairs at South Town, taking the flag, but -A-g- regrouped at Roadblock quickly. After stopping each wave of the [M] attack in its tracks, we pushed a little closer each time, before zerging the flag, and stealing the first of two PAC Ocelots.
With Ministry back on the bleed, we began to set up on the high ground. It wasn't long before another push came, but it was stopped quickly - the driver of [M]'s second and final FAV left it standing unattended. Luges saw the oppurtunity, jumped in, hit the NOS, and sped off.
No cars, and an uphill battle. Literally. As -A-g- set up around the southern perimeter of the flag area, [M] began to push up. However, each attempt was short lived, a hailstorm of grenades and bullets stopping each push cold.
Eventually, they were able to steal a car back, but with only a handful of tickets left on the scoreboard, it was too little, too late.
The round ended with a full [M] car passing South Town, and desperate cries in -A-g- vent, before rejoicing that the game was over.
The second round ended with a score of 102-0, largely due to the bleed afflicting [M] for much of the game.
Total score: 192-0. What's next?
-A-g- v F-V| (Shuhia Taiba - Grand Final)
Next Wednesday at 20:30 AEST, Avant-Garde will be defending their back to back Gamearena premierships from the For Valour offensive.
Shuhia Taiba is a map that -A-g- have enjoyed successes on previously, and is very popular amongst much of the team. However, F-V| are no strangers to it either, with a win over the otherwise undefeated Team-awaKen^ in the recent netGameRadio #BFMasters competition.
No matter how you slice it, next week's match will definately be a clash of the titans.
Watch this space for more, and keep an eye on nGR for details on shoutcast coverage!
